Overview
Labuan Bajo Round Trip 3D/2N

Great Cruise for

This all-inclusive private cruise is available only at Lombok-Indonesia.org and is organized by our award-winning team on a brand-new boat, the Elrora.

After extensive research and testing of Komodo Island tours, we have crafted the perfect itinerary that balances quality, price, comfort, and exclusivity. We have spent countless hours researching, organizing, and refining this trip to create the best possible experience. Our team is trained to provide customers with maximum private time on each island, more than any other company in Labuan Bajo or Lombok! After all, no one wants to be on islands crowded with tourists, and our crew knows how to navigate the schedules of hundreds of other boats.

This tour is exclusively designed by our team, featuring a brand-new boat tailored for this once-in-a-lifetime adventure. After years of experience guiding on other boats, we’ve created something truly special. Once you look out over the bay at the other boats, you will immediately recognize that you made the right choice with the official Lombok-Indonesia.org cruise.

Departure Days & Crowd Avoidance

Our tour departs from Labuan Bajo on:

  • Monday & Thursday (best for avoiding crowds).
  • Friday (sometimes available) to accommodate weekend travelers, though this is a busier day.

Why does this matter?

Most other private boats leave on Fridays, making it a crowded day for Komodo tours. However, our expert guides strategically time arrivals at each destination to maximize exclusivity and ensure the best experience.

We designed this tour to be as easy as possible for our guests, matching the same high-quality standards we offer to our Mt. Rinjani hiking customers. We are a team of childhood friends, with some of us managing the hiking business in Senaru and others managing our cruise ship in Labuan Bajo. We are all from Lombok or Labuan Bajo.

Unlike larger tours with fixed schedules, our smaller charter allows flexibility:

Getting to
Labuan Bajo

By Air:
The Best Option

The easiest and most reliable way to reach Labuan Bajo is by flying from Bali (Denpasar Airport). There are direct flights available from Bali to Komodo International Airport operated by AirPaz, AirAsia, Batik Air, Garuda, and Super Air Jet.

Once you arrive at Komodo International Airport, our team will be there to pick you up. The drive from the airport to most hotels in Labuan Bajo takes approximately 15 minutes, making it the most convenient and stress-free option for travelers.

By Ferry/Bus Combination:
(Not Recommended)

Some guests ask about traveling by ferry and bus to Labuan Bajo instead of flying. While this may seem like an adventure, it is a very difficult and exhausting route that we do not recommend. Our staff has taken this route multiple times, and we are familiar with the challenges it presents.

To get to Labuan Bajo by ferry and bus, you must first start in Lombok. The first challenge is booking the bus. There are two types of buses available, and they are significantly different in terms of quality. The regular bus is very low quality and has questionable safety standards. The alternative is a sleeper bus, which costs 485,000 IDR ($30 USD), but it can only be booked via a WhatsApp number in Indonesian. Additionally, this bus has a low capacity and is often fully booked in advance.

The sleeper bus departs from Lombok and travels two hours to Kayangan Port, where passengers must exit the bus and board a 2-hour ferry ride to Pototano Port in Sumbawa. The bus itself is also on the ferry, but passengers are not allowed to stay inside during the crossing.

Upon arrival at Pototano Port, it is already nighttime, and the journey continues with an 8 to 11-hour overnight bus ride to Bima. This is where the trip becomes especially challenging. The bus schedule is highly unreliable, and delays are common, which can cause passengers to miss the ferry connection to Labuan Bajo.

When you arrive at Bima, the situation becomes even more difficult. Unofficial taxi operators aggressively approach travelers, using intimidating tactics to get them to book a ride. Some of these individuals do not actually have taxis, and guests have reported being forced into the back of trucks or even cattle transport vehicles instead of real taxis.

After navigating this situation, there is still a 1.5-hour drive to Sape Port. The road is very winding and mountainous, with unsafe driving conditions, frequent wildlife crossings (goats and monkeys), and reckless drivers. This stretch of the trip can be particularly stressful and is not recommended for travelers unfamiliar with the area.

Once at Sape Port, you will be approached by another group of semi-aggressive locals offering assistance. Here, you must figure out how to purchase your ferry ticket, which can be confusing for first-time travelers. The ferry itself is a basic public ferry that is not designed for tourists. It is overcrowded, uncomfortable, and offers little in terms of amenities. The 8-hour ferry ride to Labuan Bajo Port is often one of the most difficult parts of the journey.

Upon arrival at Labuan Bajo Port, you must then get to your hotel.

Many guests ask about this option, and while it may appear cheaper than flying, the reality is that it comes with too many risks, discomforts, and uncertainties. The long travel time, unreliable schedule, safety concerns, and lack of comfort make this route not worth the trouble.

It is far better to take a low-cost airline from Bali (or even from Lombok with a transfer in Bali), as it will save time, energy, and often end up costing less than this exhausting overland journey.

However, in the rare event the tour is canceled because of weather, you will receive a refund of the total cost minus a 3% credit card transaction fee. You also can reschedule your tour at no extra cost.

Sometimes, certain islands cannot be docked at because of rough conditions, usually only in January or February. In such cases we have alternative islands to visit. Typhoons are extremely rare.

Speedboat customers often do not see Komodo Dragons because of the large crowds. Our boats arrive early in the morning, which offers the best chance to see them. Rangers do not push or track the dragons, so it is a natural encounter. Our customers usually do see them due to our early arrival.

In July and August, Komodo Dragons are in mating season and often hide in the hills. If sightings are low at Komodo Island during this time, we may visit Rinca Island’s conservation area, but we can only get close to shore and cannot dock due to restrictions. Thanks to conservation efforts and the fees paid to national parks, Komodo Dragons are thriving.

Absolutely not! They are dangerous wild animals. Tourists must stay at least 4 meters away and follow the ranger’s instructions. Rangers are trained to read the dragons’ behavior; always listen to the ranger and do not get closer than they allow.

You can get as close as about 4 meters for a photo. The dragons deeper in the forest are not safe to approach for pictures.

No. You will be with your guide and an officially trained ranger from Komodo National Park.

Weather Dependent
Alternative Destinations

In case of bad weather or unexpected closures, we offer alternative stops, such as:

Please note that this is just the basic itinerary. The best thing about the Lombok-Indonesia.org official tour is that we can stop and go as we please! We are not on a fixed schedule, and often make changes to avoid the crowds and seek out wildlife. For instance, if there are dolphins jumping, or manta rays found, we may stop to allow our guests to enjoy these longer. Furthermore, if Komodo Island starts to get really busy later in the morning, we can leave to go to another Island where we can see them from the boat. The best thing about our tours is the flexibility.

While there are multiple ways to travel on the Komodo Tour, we do not recommend the following options due to their lack of flexibility, overcrowding, and lower-quality experience.
Important things to take into consideration when booking other boats:

  • Komodo Luxury Cruise offers luxury tours from Lombok to Labuan Bajo, departing from Senggigi Port and arriving at KP3 Port in Labuan Bajo. This journey takes 4 days and 3 nights and operates only on Saturdays.

  • Saturday is one of the busiest travel days in the area, meaning that when visiting whale sharks on Sumbawa Island, multiple boats are in the same area. This disrupts the whale sharks and takes away from the natural experience. We do not support this kind of tourism, and it is not something we choose to do at our company. Additionally, this tour spends significantly more time at sea than any of the other Komodo tour options. Many customers who have taken this journey have expressed that they felt they missed out on experiencing the islands because of the extended time spent traveling.

  • This boat carries 26 passengers, meaning everyone moves together as a large group. With a fixed schedule, there is no opportunity to explore alternate sites or adjust the tour pace. When traveling in large groups like this, the experience feels less personal and natural. Because of these reasons, we do not recommend this as the best option for customers looking for an immersive and high-quality trip.
  • The backpacker boat follows the same itinerary as the luxury boat but departs on Mondays instead. This boat has 28 passengers, with 20 guests (men and women together) sleeping in one large room on mats. There are four private rooms available for two people each.

  • This tour follows a strict fixed schedule, leaving no room for flexibility or customization. The food provided is very basic, with simple meals like fried rice and minimal portions of protein. Compared to the other boats, this is the most budget-friendly option, but it is also one of the least comfortable. The lower price comes with trade-offs in both quality and overall experience. While this may be an option for travelers looking to save money, it is important to understand that it lacks the comfort, privacy, and flexibility offered by better tours.

  • There are hundreds of small boat operators running 3-day, 2-night tours from Labuan Bajo. We have personally toured and taken many of these boats, and the most common complaint from guests is that they are simply not comfortable. Many of these boats are old and poorly maintained, which leads to a variety of issues, ranging from tiny, jail-like rooms to a constant diesel smell throughout the boat. Many guests also report severe seasickness due to the unstable nature of these boats.

  • The upper decks are often extremely hot during the day, and the food quality is low, with unsanitary conditions being a common problem. Bathrooms are often not well maintained, and there is no internet access. Additionally, many of the crews on these boats do not speak English, which can make communication difficult, especially in an emergency. The small dinghies used to transfer guests to and from the islands can also be unsafe.

  • One of the biggest issues with these small boat tours is that the pictures advertised online often look much better than the actual boats. Many companies operate multiple boats, meaning that you may not get the exact boat you booked. Boats require yearly maintenance, and a boat that looked great at the start of the season can become a completely different experience by the end. This is something many travelers are not aware of when booking. If you are considering this type of tour, we highly recommend reading recent reviews to see what people have experienced firsthand.
