Dolphins are very common in the waters around Komodo National Park, and guests often see them while the boat is cruising between islands. They sometimes swim alongside the phinisi, especially in the early morning when the sea is calm. Watching them jump and play around the bow is a beautiful moment on many of our trips, and it adds a little extra magic to the journey.
Whale sharks, however, are not found in Komodo. They are typically seen in Sumbawa, several hours west of the park. If swimming with whale sharks is part of your dream itinerary, our team can help you arrange a separate tour in the correct location. Many travellers combine a Komodo cruise with a Sumbawa whale shark experience, especially if they are already exploring Lombok or the surrounding islands.
Komodo itself still offers incredible marine life, from mantas and turtles to reef sharks and huge schools of fish. While whale sharks are not part of the Komodo ecosystem, the variety of wildlife you can see here makes every snorkelling stop special.
