The Mount Rinjani trek begins early in the morning so hikers can reach the crater rim or summit at the correct time. For all routes, the day starts at 7 in the morning when we leave our homestay in Senaru and drive to Sembalun, the official starting point for the summit routes. The drive takes about an hour. Once you arrive at the national park entrance, your guide handles the registration, and you begin hiking around 8 in the morning. This gives you a full day of daylight to climb steadily toward the crater rim camp.
For the 2 day and 1 night Summit Trek, most groups finish the descent on the second day between 3 and 5 in the afternoon. The exact time depends on the group’s pace, trail conditions, and how long the summit attempt takes in the early morning. This schedule means that hikers should not plan to catch a flight or a ferry to Bali on the same day they finish the trek. Even fast travelers rarely reach the airport or the southern ports in time. However, it is usually possible to reach the Gili Islands if you move quickly, since the drive from Senaru or Sembalun to Bangsal Harbor is short and the boats run later in the afternoon.
The 3 day and 2 night routes, such as the Summit and Lake Trek or the Torean Route, follow a similar finishing pattern but can end slightly later. Most groups complete the final descent between 3 and 5 in the afternoon, although some arrive closer to 6 in the evening depending on how long they spend at the lake or how steep the exit trail is. Because these routes cover more ground, hikers should plan to stay on Lombok for the night rather than arranging any long distance travel immediately after the trek.
The schedule for all Rinjani treks is designed to give hikers the right amount of daylight for each section while keeping the pace comfortable and safe. Early starts, steady progress, and predictable finishing times help ensure that the experience remains enjoyable and well organised.
