You do not need to bring your own snorkel gear for most Komodo cruises. Boats that depart from Labuan Bajo, including the phinisi cruises we offer, provide masks, snorkels and fins at no extra cost. The crew prepares the gear before each snorkelling stop and helps beginners adjust it properly. For most travellers, the included equipment is perfectly fine for all the snorkelling locations in the national park.
If you are joining the Lombok to Labuan Bajo boats, the setup is a little different. These longer crossings use simpler backpacker style boats, and snorkel gear is usually available for rent rather than included for free. The gear quality can vary, which is one reason many travellers prefer starting their Komodo adventure from Labuan Bajo instead of Lombok.
If you already own a mask that fits your face well, you are welcome to bring it. A familiar mask can be more comfortable, especially for long snorkelling sessions at spots like Pink Beach or Manta Point. However, bringing your own gear is optional. Labuan Bajo based cruises provide everything you need without requiring you to carry extra equipment.
