Do I need to carry oxygen on mount rinjani?

Oxygen is not needed for Mount Rinjani, and hikers do not carry it during the trek. The summit is 3,726 meters, which is high enough to make breathing feel more difficult, but not nearly high enough to require supplemental oxygen. This is very different from extreme altitude climbs such as Everest or Himalayan peaks, where oxygen levels drop to dangerous levels. On Rinjani, healthy hikers can complete the ascent safely without any special equipment beyond normal trekking gear.

Most people will notice that the air feels thinner on the summit push, especially during the steep final sections. This is completely normal and simply means you need to move slowly and take short breaks when needed. Guides monitor the group for signs of fatigue and set a steady pace that allows everyone to adjust to the altitude. Drinking enough water, eating properly, and resting at the crater rim before the summit attempt also help the body stay comfortable during the climb.

Carrying oxygen would add unnecessary weight and is not part of any Rinjani tour. The mountain’s altitude does not require it, and experienced guides are trained to recognize and manage mild altitude discomfort if it appears. As long as hikers are reasonably fit and take the ascent at a controlled pace, Rinjani’s summit can be reached safely without any oxygen equipment.
