What’s not included in a mount Rinjani trek?

A Mount Rinjani trek includes almost everything needed for the climb, but there are still a few items that are not included and that hikers should plan for in advance. The most important exclusions are personal trekking gear, such as hiking shoes, warm clothing, rain jackets, headlamps, and trekking poles. These items must be brought by each hiker, because they are essential for safety and comfort on the steep summit slopes and during cold nights at high altitude. Personal snacks, energy bars, and any preferred drinks beyond the provided water and hot beverages are also not included.

Travelers are responsible for their own travel insurance, which is highly recommended for mountain trekking. Insurance that covers high-altitude hiking, medical evacuation, and trip changes is important because conditions on Rinjani can shift quickly. Personal medical supplies, medications, blister care, and hygiene items such as wet wipes, sunscreen, and toiletries are also not part of the package.

Another key exclusion is accommodation outside the trek schedule. The package typically includes one night in Senaru before the climb, but any additional nights before or after are the responsibility of the hiker. Meals outside the trekking itinerary, such as lunches or dinners before arrival or after descent, are also not included.

Transportation is included for groups of two or more from anywhere on Lombok, but solo hikers who need pickup from locations other than Bangsal Harbor must pay a $20 fee directly to the driver. Airfare, airport taxes, ferry tickets to the Gili Islands, and other off-mountain transportation costs are not part of the trekking package.

Drone permits, photography permits, or special filming permissions are also excluded. These permissions are extremely expensive and reserved only for large production teams, so regular trekkers should not expect them to be available.

In summary, anything related to personal gear, insurance, additional accommodations, special permits, and non-standard transportation is not included in a Mount Rinjani trek package. All core trekking logistics are covered, but hikers must bring their own equipment and handle their own travel arrangements outside of the scheduled trek.
