Yes, you can see the main highlights on a one day Komodo tour by speedboat, but the experience is very different from a multi day cruise. Day trips are extremely fast paced and often overcrowded because many boats follow the same schedule. You visit Padar Island, Komodo Island, Pink Beach, and sometimes Manta Point, but each stop is short and rushed. With limited time at each location, you do not get the peaceful moments that make Komodo special.
Speedboat tours also tend to arrive at the busiest hours of the day. Padar is packed by mid morning and Komodo Island becomes crowded with multiple tour groups arriving at once. Pink Beach often has dozens of people in the water at the same time, and the snorkelling feels less relaxed. The experience is very touristy, and guests who expect a quiet, natural atmosphere are often surprised by how busy day trips can be.
The ride itself is also much bumpier. Speedboats move quickly across the water and the seas around Komodo can be choppy, especially during windy seasons. You arrive at the destinations faster, but the journey is not nearly as comfortable as a phinisi cruise. Meals are usually simple boxed lunches, and there is very little time to rest or enjoy the boat between stops.
If you have very limited time, a one day speedboat tour can work. You will see the major landmarks and get good photos. However, the best way to experience Komodo is still the 3 day 2 night cruise.
