Komodo Island is most crowded during the dry season, especially from June to September. These months offer the calmest seas, the best visibility for snorkelling and diving, and the most reliable weather, which attracts travelers from all over the world. July and August are the peak months, and popular spots like Padar Island, Pink Beach, and Manta Point often have many boats arriving at similar times. During this period, the best cruise ships tend to sell out early, and even the smaller budget boats can fill all available spaces.
The shoulder months of April, May, and October are also fairly busy, although not as intense as the peak season. These months still provide good weather, and many travelers choose them to enjoy comfortable conditions without the largest crowds. The marine life is active, the islands are green from recent rain, and sunrise hikes are especially beautiful. Cruise availability is better than in mid season, but it is still wise to book in advance.
Low season begins around November and continues through February. This is the rainy period, when sea conditions can be rougher, and some days have stronger winds or cloudy skies. Fewer boats operate during these months, and the number of visitors on the islands drops significantly. Travelers who prefer quieter experiences often enjoy the low season, although some tours may require more flexibility due to weather changes. March is a transition month and can feel like a mix of both seasons, with calmer seas returning and visitor numbers still relatively low.
If you want the best balance of good weather and smaller crowds, consider April, May, or October. If you want the maximum chance of calm seas and manta ray sightings, choose June through September. And if you enjoy quieter islands and do not mind occasional rain, the low season offers a peaceful and more affordable Komodo experience.
